This is an integrated, multi-dimensional approach applicable to those seeking short term relief, such as recovery from surgery/injury, to those seeking long term relief from addictive behaviors, chronic stress, pain and fatigue, or resolution of underlying trauma.
Somatic therapy can also support a deeper connection to one’s spiritual life, increased strength and flexibility, and those who simply want to thrive as they age. The approach is complimentary with other alternative or allopathic modalities.
This is not talk therapy. It is a bottom-up, collaborative approach that focuses on experiential learning. We work together to identify the best tools for your current needs. Often it includes learning foundational skills in emotional and nervous system self-regulation, and developing the capacity to listen deeply to your body as a source of healing. Your treatment plan may include training in a mix of tools appropriately selected and tailored to your individual needs such as embodied, present moment awareness, visualization, breath work, gentle movement, and compassion practices.
Melaney draws from her training in Yoga Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and mindfulness meditation. She infuses her work with compassion rooted in her lived experience growing and healing from trauma using these methods.
